The words "Santa Claus" must be one the worlds most famous names ...

At the very mention of Santa Claus or Father Christmas and children become excited and their eyes light up and they smile from ear to ear.

The Santa name differs in most countries but the perception of why he exists, and what he stands for is universal.

Whether he makes his visits on Christmas Eve, or early Christmas morning, the end result is the same, and his message and kindness reverberates around the world.

• He manages to visit and deliver presents to every household in every corner of the world, in record time.
• He has existed, and never disappointed for centuries.
• He is ageless and loved as a character in his red uniform and snow-white beard and moustache.
• He is rather plump, but still very fit.
• He is a master at rearing, training and driving his reindeer, which pull a fully laden sleigh with toys.

The "Thompson Santa School" was set up in 2008 ...

Stuart J Thompson's objective is to identify and train Assistant Santas for this very important role.

• The training syllabus includes the History of Santa, voice training, costumes, make-up, roleplay etc.
• The school will include training candidates from throughout Scotland and the North of England, all keen to develop their skills in order to provide assistance for the one and only "Santa Claus".
• On completion of their training course they will be presented with Certificate of Competence.

All of this before they go forth to carry out duties in Shopping Malls, Grottos and Parties leading up to Xmas Day ....

Santa is an extremely busy man, who is much in demand by everyone. He cannot be in all places requested, at the same time.
